Hi.

Follow my life heading in to year 30, as I document the details. Everything from brands I love, the joys and struggles of balancing my career(s), parenthood marriage and friendship, and everything else along the way.  Something about heading in to my thirties has me looking at things in a whole new light... with an entirely fresh mindset. Hence the name, #ThirtyMinded.

If you're looking for PC... don't count on me. Cheers!

Should you microblade your eyebrows?

Should you microblade your eyebrows?

My eyebrows have always been a sore subject for me. While my natural hair color has darkened with age to a really dirty blonde or almost light brown (and even grey - YIKES) my eyebrows have stayed the same color blonde and not followed the trend with the rest of my body. In addition, they have never recovered from high school when the thin brows were ever-so-popular and I tweezed them to kingdom come.

When my husband tagged me in an Instagram video about microblading a few years ago I was really intrigued, but I honestly thought "there is no way in hell I am tattooing my face". Well... flash forward to end of 2017 and my favorite waxer at the Screaming Peach in Fort Collins CO started offering it as a service. She is the first person who taught me to fill in my eyebrows back in 2008 - or so, and is truly a WIZARD when it comes to shape. Naturally, when she started offering it she thought of me because of my LACK of eyebrows and told me she would do an introductory offer for me so that I could give it a shot, and she could practice.

Normally I am not a huge risk taker but I truly trust Amanda with my life (and my body parts, I mean, she is my waxer - sorry if that is TMI). I knew she wouldn't move forward unless she felt really confident, so I went for it. I learned quite a few things and thought since I had NO idea what I was getting in to, I would share the experience with you!

You cannot drink alcohol 24 hours in advance

I feel no need to explain this more, but as a daily wine drinker, that kind of sucked.

You cannot take any blood thinners ahead of time

This means ibuprofen etc. so the pain is... well there is some pain involved. This is because they are actually slicing in to your skin. This not only hurts but you can hear it happening. I recommend earphones with music honestly...

You need to plan your week around it

You cannot sweat for around 5 days, you cannot wash your face for about 24 hours after, and you have to have baby wash (I used the Honest Company Unscented Shampoo and LOVED it) and grape seed oil (my microblade technician gave me this) and applicators (q tips) to clean & moisturize your brows 24 hours after the procedure is done. Moral of the story, shower before you go and plan to eat healthy all week and go on a lot of walks if you are crazy like me.

Bring a hat

You look silly as the ink gets darker throughout the day, so if you are going to run around town definitely bring a hat so you don't scare people.

Plan to be there a few hours

This is not something you want to rush, and it can take 3+ hours! They put this insane ink or dye or something on your face and let it soak after they've made all the cuts... and you look like this!

I WAS SO SCARED AT THIS POINT!

I WAS SO SCARED AT THIS POINT!

You cannot wear makeup on them for about 3 weeks

This is because of the scabbing / healing process. The bacteria can cause infection and that would not be sexy. Do NOT plan to do this before a vacation (sun exposure) or any event you'd need to wear full makeup for.

Touch 'em up

The ink does not stick 100% the first time, so 5-6 weeks later you go back and they give you a touch up, but it is just as invasive, so the healing process will be the same.

Prepare to be terrified

After my first appointment, my husband was naming all of the villians I  looked like because they looked too close together and way too dark! They looked BLACK and I am a blonde. I was terrified. But, the microblade technician told me it shrinks down and curves and that is how it was supposed to look. Trust them when the say that, they are right! Mine healed in the PERFECT shape. So, it is definitely scary at first, but it leads me to my last point...

Prepare to love them

They look SO natural and honestly have given me a ton of confidence. I never felt I could leave the house without makeup before because I literally do not have eyebrows and now I really feel like I can without being self-conscious. Here are the before and afters..

Before I started the process. I had no arch and this was the thickest I was able to grow them. This was without tweezing or waxing for an entire year!

If I knew all that I know now, I would definitely recommend it again and would pay full price to have them done. I love the finished product and it has saved me a ton of time daily not having to fill my brows in unless I want a more dramatic look. If you have additional questions, comment below and I will answer them the best that I can!
